This month, 40 Techers traveled to the Grace Hopper Celebration—the world's largest gathering of women in technology—thanks in part to donations from Caltech alumni who are members of Caltech's Information Science and Technology (IST) Advisory Council. The donors covered the cost of attendance for many of the students who participated.
At the conference, students planned for their futures at a massive career fair. They learned from keynote speakers including Melinda Gates, who co-chairs the Gates Foundation; Ayanna Howard, a distinguished Georgia Tech bioengineering professor who earlier was an award-winning roboticist at JPL; Mary Spio, the virtual reality pioneer who leads CEEK VR; and Caltech alumna Fei-Fei Li (PhD '05), who directs the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and is Google Cloud's chief scientist for artificial intelligence and machine learning.
This year also marked the culmination of alumna Telle Whitney's (MS '81, PhD '85) term as president and CEO of AnitaB.org, which produces the annual Grace Hopper Celebration.
